First Naval Battle of the American Revolution

The first naval battle of the American Revolution was the Battle of Machias, fought on June 11–12, 1775, in Machias Bay, Maine (then part of Massachusetts). During this clash, local Patriot militiamen captured the armed British schooner HMS Margaretta after a dramatic harbor chase.
